September "in and around" Carlisle

WALKING

My favorite activity is walking.  I love to walk. Whether it is by myself, with my husband, my dog, or with friends, it is such an envigorating experience.

When you stay at the Red Cardinal B&B, you can step out the front door and begin a great walk.  Meander down Lerew Road, and when you reach the end, pick up the walking trail that connects two parks.

Another good walk is the trail at the Army Heritage and Education Center (AHEC).  The loop chronicles the life of a soldier throughout U.S. history.  If you want a longer walk, this trail connects with the loop around the golf course at the Army War College.

If you are a more rugged walker, there are miles of trails in the area's state parks in the area - Caledonia, Colonel Denning, Pine Grove Furnace, Tuscarora and Michaux.

The Appalachian trail crosses Cumberland County and is easily accessible in Boiling Springs or Pine Grove Furnace State Park.

If you like to stroll, then head over to Boiling Springs and walk around Children's Pond; afterwards enjoy a refreshing drink afterwards at Cafe 101.

Walk along the streets of downtown Carlisle and do some window shopping as well.

Whatever your interest, bring your walking shoes and start at the Red Cardinal B&B.

My husband and I recently traveled to Carlisle for the All GM Nationals at the Carlisle Fairgrounds and for some sight-seeing in the area....We could not have asked for better service, atmosphere or hospitality...

Red Cardinal Bed & Breakfast

"A Little Corner of Paradise"

The Red Cardinal Bed & Breakfast is located near the centers of Carlisle and Boiling Springs.

From our B&B, it is an easy drive to Shippensburg, Gettysburg, Lancaster, Hershey and Harrisburg.

We are centrally located to the area's most popular attractions: The Carlisle Collector Car Shows, the Appalachian Trail, the Yellow Breeches Creek, Dickinson College and Penn State Dickinson School of Law.

Our beautiful home dates back to the early 1880's.  The land and the dwelling were part of a larger tract belonging to the Craighead family, who settled the area in 1742.

As you approach our home, you will see a charming house with an inviting front porch and red shutters.  When you step inside, you will be greeted with old-fashioned hospitality.

"Nooks and crannies" add to the charm of the house.  A few additions over the years, give the house its personality.

Original art work by family and friends covers the walls in every room.

The Red Cardinal Bed & Breakfast sits among the farmlands and mountains in South Middleton Township of Cumberland County.  It is a short drive from I-81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

We invite you to come and visit us in this quiet setting where life is not so hurried.
